Biographical Information

Catcher Takashi Miwa played 11 years in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Miwa was the captain of the Meiji University baseball team and was a Tokyo Big Six University League Best Nine pick three times. He then went to play for Kobe Seiko in the industrial leagues. Miwa was picked for the Japanese national team for the 1991 Intercontinental Cup and hit .353/.350/.529 backing up Yasunori Takami for the Silver Medalists. In the 1992 Olympics, the 22-year-old backstop was 1 for 5 with two runs as Takami's backup as Japan won a Bronze. In the 1993 Intercontinental Cup, Miwa batted .381/.458/.571 with 6 runs and 6 RBI in eight games, primarily at DH as Hideaki Okubo was the main catcher for the team. Japan won Bronze; Lourdes Gourriel Sr. beat Miwa out for All-Star honors at DH. He also represented Japan in the 1991 Asian Championship.

Miwa was a second-round pick of the Orix BlueWave in the 1993 NPB draft. He debuted with the club the next year, going 0 for 1. In 1995, the catcher hit .246/.315/.360 in 49 games. He was just 5 for 40 in 29 games for the 1996 BlueWave.

Miwa hit .215/.257/.265 in a career-high 86 games in 1997. A year later, the catcher batted .231/.282/.312. In 1999, Miwa batted .232/.297/.338 with a career-high 24 RBI and 13 walks in 85 games. Miwa produced at a .182/.248/.252 clip in 2000. Miwa only played 31 games for Orix in 2001, batting .190/.203/.206. In 2002, the veteran hit .184/.214/.272 in 65 games. Playing 60 games for the 2003 BlueWave, Miwa batted .308/.328/.526 for a career high; he hit 8 home runs in 133 AB and also had a career-best 19 runs. He only had 10 HR in 1,138 AB in other seasons. Miwa concluded his career in 2004, batting .224/.269/.306 in 27 games.

Overall, in 584 NPB games, Miwa hit .222/.270/.312 in 1,271 AB.
