Biographical Information[edit]

Tae-hwan Hwang played in the Korea Baseball Organization for 8 years.

Hwang represented South Korea in the 1976 Haarlem Baseball Week, and he was signed by the OB Bears when they were founded in 1982. He was 6-5 with a 3.86 ERA in is first season, and he won the first KBO Gold Glove as a pitcher. He beat the Samsung Lions twice in the 1982 Korean Series; his Game 3 win was OB's first Korean Series win. They won the league's first title. Hwang then notched a league-leading 14 saves with a 2.65 ERA in 1983, and he was 8th in ERA (between Si-jin Kim and Sang-yun Lee). Hwang's ERA was 2.48 in 17 games in 1984, and he went 4-8 with a 3.53 ERA in 1985. He pitched 28 games with a 2.45 ERA in 1986, but his ERA rose to 5.48 in 28 games with 5 saves in 1987. Hwang then recorded a 6.52 ERA in 23 relief outings in 1988, and he announced his retirement after the 1989 season. He was the pitching coach for OB's minors team in 1990 and for their big club in 1991, and he also coached Shinil High School and Hanyang University.

Overall, Hwang was 21-29 with a 3.70 ERA, notched 26 saves in 199 appearances, struck out 239 and pitched 518 1/3 in 8 seasons in the KBO.
