Biographical Information[edit]
Sung-ki Park pitched in the Korea Baseball Organization for 9 years.
Park played for South Korea in the 1990 Baseball World Cup, going 0-1 with a 18.00 ERA and 13 hits in 5 IP; he lost to Eiji Ochiai and Japan. The Ssangbangwool Raiders drafted him in the special round for the expansion team in the 1991 KBO draft, and he went 10-11 with a 4.51 ERA in his first season. He was 9th in appearances, tied with Dong-hyun Kim, Yu-seok Song and Youn-su Jung. Park then had a 9-8 record with a 4.08 ERA in 1992, and he was 11-11 with a 3.83 ERA in 1993. Park pitched 31 games with a 11-12 record in 1994, and he was 3rd in losses (3 behind Kang-chul Lee). He was 5-9 with a 4.83 ERA in 1995, then he went 5-6 with a 3.84 ERA in 1996.
The Jeonju missed most of the 1997 season due to injuries, then the Raiders traded him with Hyeon-min Kim to the Lotte Giants for Dong-soo Lee and Kye-won Park. His ERA was 4.60 in 22 games in 1998, then the Giants traded him to the Hanwha Eagles for cash. Park only pitched 4 games for Hanwha in 1999, then he announced his retirement. He later coached Seoul High School in 2005, Jeonju High School from 2007 to 2008 and Yushin High School in 2009. He was an assistant coach of the Hwasun High School from 2012 to 2013 and became their head coach in 2014. Park coached the minor league team of the KT Wiz from 2016 to 2017, and he became an assistant coach of the Wonkwang University in 2018.
Overall, Park was 51-59 with a 4.42 ERA, struck out 564 and pitched 893 2/3 in 9 seasons in the KBO.
