Biographical Information[edit]
Steven Hensley is a veteran minor league pitcher in the Los Angeles Angels organization.
Hensley was drafted twice, first out of high school by the Washington Nationals in the 44th round of the 2005 amateur draft, and again by the Seattle Mariners in the 4th round in 2008, out of Elon University.
Hensley started his professional career well, going 2-1 in 8 games for the Everett AquaSox in 2008, and then a solid 13-4, 3.95 with three teams in 2009. He started that year by picking up 4 wins and not giving up a single earned runs in 19 2/3 innings for the Clinton LumberKings of the Midwest League, then was 9-3, 4.21 in 20 games with the High Desert Mavericks of the California League, and finally started three games for the AA West Tenn Diamond Jaxx. He spent all of 2010 at West Tenn, going 7-11, 4.62 in 22 starts. Things were going pretty well for Steven at that point, but he would have trouble taking the next steps on the ladder to the major leagues. In 2011, he was 4-8, 4.61 in 20 games in AA for the Jackson Generals, then repeated the level for the third straight year in 2012. He was moved to the bullpen, but did better than the two previous seasons, with a 3.24 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 33 1/3 innings for Jackson. He was promoted to the AAA Tacoma Rainiers in mid-season, but his ERA was 6.27 in 24 games. Overall, he went 4-6, 4.84 in 44 games, all in relief, with 2 saves. He was back with Tacoma at the start of 2013 but only pitched two games before being traded to the Rockies on April 11th, in return for veteran major league starter Aaron Harang.
