Biographical Information[edit]

Shortstop Steve Rowell was taken out of high school by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 17th round of the 1997 amateur draft, a couple of picks after pitcher Brian Shackelford and one ahead of hurler Chris Bootcheck. He didn't sign, attending the University of New Orleans instead. In 2000, he hit .345/.442/.546 in 61 games for the school. He never played professionally.

He was the first Rowell drafted since Alex Rowell in 1968, and the last until Billy Rowell in 2006.
