Biographical Information[edit]

Alex Rowell was taken by the Minnesota Twins 16th overall in the 1968 amateur draft, directly ahead of Gary Matthews Sr.. He played in the minor leagues until 1970, peaking at Double-A. Perhaps his best season was his first--with the St. Cloud Rox in 1968, he hit .301 with five home runs in 70 games.

Overall, he hit .271 with 11 home runs in 176 games.

He was head coach at Gustavus Adolphus College in 1972 and 1973, going 21-27.

He was the last Rowell drafted until Steve Rowell in 1997.
