Biographical Information[edit]
Corner infielder Steve Proscia played in the minor and independent leagues from 2011 to 2015, peaking at Double-A.
He was originally taken by the Minnesota Twins in the 39th round of the 2008 amateur draft, a few picks after infielder Brad Miller and ahead of notable big leaguers Kyle Hendricks and Yan Gomes, but opted not to sign. He did sign after being taken by the Seattle Mariners in the 7th round of the 2011 amateur draft, ahead of future All-Star pitcher Blake Treinen. He was signed by scout Mike Moriarty. He had been named the 2011 Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament MVP.
He dominated the low minors in the early going, but was stymied upon reaching the mid-minors. He hit .303/.319/.505 with 12 home runs and 42 RBI in 44 games for the High-A High Desert Mavericks in 2011, then batted .333/.368/.567 with 24 home runs, 94 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 106 games for the club in 2012. In 21 games for the Double-A Jackson Generals that year, he hit just .211/.259/.395, bringing his combined season totals to .315/.352/.541 with 28 home runs and 103 RBI. He was a California League Post-Season All-Star and a MiLB.com Organization All-Star that year. He struggled to a .223/.277/.381 line in 2013, spending most of the year at Double-A; however, he batted .306/.371/.565 in 21 games at High Desert.
On March 29, 2014 he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers for cash considerations. He spent a year in their system, hitting .233/.291/.384 with 14 home runs and 60 RBI in 115 games for their High-A club the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. In March 2015, the Dodgers released him and he signed with the independent York Revolution, struggling in 19 games with them.
In the affiliated minors, he hit .266/.311/.458 with 68 home runs and 251 RBI in 397 games overall.
