Biographical Information[edit]

Utilityman Steve Martin played in the minor leagues from 1989 to 1993 and was twice named a top 10 prospect in the San Diego Padres chain by Baseball America (#5 in 1990 & #7 in 1991).

He was taken by the Padres in the 16th round of the 1989 amateur draft, one pick after catcher Brian Johnson. The speedster stole 24, 31 and 42 bases his first three seasons, respectively, and he scored 82 runs in 98 games for the Waterloo Diamonds in 1990. On February 7, 1992, he was traded with pitcher Jim Lewis to the Baltimore Orioles for pitcher Tom Martin and third baseman Craig Worthington. He spent only 21 games in the Orioles system. He last played in the California Angels system in 1993.

Overall, he hit .249/.342/.369 with 26 home runs, 163 RBI, 125 stolen bases and 241 runs scored in 418 games over 5 seasons.
