Biographical Information[edit]
Starting pitcher Stephen Lagomarsino played in the minor leagues from 1947 to 1952. He spent the majority of his career in the high-offense West Texas-New Mexico League and his career numbers reflect that. In 190 games, he was 55-53 with an ERA over 5.
He served as a paratrooper in the Army during World War II. In 1947, his rookie season, he posted a 4.93 ERA despite winning 18 games and losing only 7 for the Amarillo Gold Sox. He hit .321 with a .452 slugging percentage in 84 at-bats for the Boston Braves affiliate. He was second in the West Texas-New Mexico League with 144 walks issued but made the top 10 in ERA and tied Paul Hinrichs and Stanley Grzywacz for 5th in wins. He was 7-11 with a 5.39 ERA for the 1948 Jackson Senators. In 1949, he had a 7-12, 6.46 record for Amarillo with 102 BB in 145 IP. He tied for 8th in the WTNML in walks.
In 1950, despite posting a .727 winning percentage (8-3) for the Albuquerque Dukes, his ERA was 6.46. The league averaged 7.22 runs per game. He was 10-13 with a 5.03 ERA for the 1951 Dukes. He tied for 9th in the West Texas-New Mexico League in losses. He split 1952 between the Dukes (no record) and Vernon Dusters (5-7, 5.29, 76 BB in 97 IP).
He later spent 26 years with the New Mexico State Police and was president of the National FBI Academy for a year.
