Biographical Information[edit]
Stanley Hashimoto was an elementary school teacher when the Toei Flyers signed him as their first foreign player ever, a good seven years after Wally Yonamine integrated the post-World War II Japanese game. He hit a poor .189/.231/.239 in 78 games in 1957 but the club returned him the next year. The move paid off, as Hashimoto batted .291/.330/.387 in 1958. He not only made the Pacific League All-Star team but he finished 6th in the PL in average (tops of any foreign player) and made the Best Nine as the loop's best overall first baseman.
Hashimoto faded to .281/.320/.363 in 1959 then to .213/.240/.256 in 1960. Moving to the Taiyo Whales in 1961, he batted .266/.331/.301 in 80 games.
Overall, Stanley played 462 games in Nippon Pro Baseball and hit .261/.302/.333.
