Biographical Information

Stan Swanson played one season in the majors as an outfielder for the Montréal Expos in 1971. He hit .245 in 49 games with 2 homers and 11 RBIs. He had orginally been signed by the Cincinnati Reds as an amateur free agent before the 1963 season, then was traded to the Expos in return for Jim Qualls just before the 1971 season. Prior to his call-up in late June, he was tearing up the International League with the Winnipeg Whips, hitting .358 with 7 homers and 33 RBIs in 56 games.

After his stint in the majors, he spent 1972 with the Portland Beavers of the Pacific Coast League, on loan from the Expos to the Cleveland Indians. He hit .293 in 89 games with 5 homers and 46 RBIs. However, he did not report to spring training with Montreal in 1973, choosing to retire instead. The Expos placed him on the restricted list and tried to convince him to change his mind, but he stuck with his decision.
