Biographical Information

Skip Jutze came up as a catcher in the St. Louis Cardinals organization, making his major league debut at the end of the 1972 season, but he had his best years for the Houston Astros from 1973 to 1976. He got his most playing time in 1973, when he hit .228 with 18 RBIs in 90 games, sharing catching duties with veteran Johnny Edwards.

He played for the expansion Seattle Mariners in their inaugural season in 1977 and had the honor of hitting the first grand slam in franchise history. It came on May 17th, off Dyar Miller of the Baltimore Orioles. He served as the back-up to Bob Stinson that year, then was released at the end of spring training in 1978, ending his career.
