Biographical Information[edit]

Simon Baumgardt has been on the German national team.

He set his high school's records for hits, doubles, runs, slugging, OPS and homers. [1] As a freshman at Tulane, he was 1 for 3 with a hit-by-pitch and two runs. Playing somewhat regularly in 2021, he hit .265/.379/.402, mostly at third and right. As his father is German, he was able to represent Germany in the 2021 U23 European Championship. [2] He hit .294/.368/.706 with two homers and five RBI in five games, fielding .850 at third as his team finished second. He tied Marco Cardoso for the event lead in dingers, tied for 8th in RBI with Tyriq Kemp and Yurdion Lourens, tied Matteo Sollecito for 4th in errors (3) and was 5th in slugging. [3]

The utility man batted .260/.373/.425 in 2022 and fielded .990, then was at .277/.380/.530 as a senior with 13 homers. He moved to Notre Dame as a graduate student in 2024 and posted a .287/.363/.523 line with 10 home runs. Back with Germany for the 2026 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers in early '25, he was one of the top players in the event. Starting at second base (where he formed a right-side infield with the very similarly-named Simon Bäumer at one point), he singled off Alan Carter of China his first time up. He reached all five times that game, scoring three runs. He was 6-for-13 with 3 walks, a double, a steal, four runs and two RBI in their four games as they fell shy in their bid for a spot in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. He ranked among the qualifiers' leaders in runs (tied for 2nd, one behind Dante Bichette Jr.), hits (tied for 5th), walks (tied for 8th) and OBP (tied Tzu-Wei Lin for 9th). The guys whose named started with Simon Baum excelled, as Bäumer went 3 for 4 to make them over .500 as a pair. [4]
