Biographical Information[edit]

Shoki Katsumata represented Japan in the 2015 U-18 Baseball World Cup and was absolutely dominant at .545/.656/.909 with 9 runs, 12 RBI and 9 walks in 8 games for the Silver Medal winners. He tied for 5th in runs, tied for 7th in hits, tied for 8th in doubles (3), led in RBI (one ahead of Luis Robert, Blake Rutherford and Josh Naylor), tied Salomon Koba and Won-jun Choi for 3rd in total bases (20), led in average (.061 ahead of Naylor), led in OBP (.056 ahead of Wataru Funabiki), led in slugging (.006 ahead of Naylor) and led in OPS (106 ahead of Naylor). He was an All-Tournament outfielder but the MVP went to Nick Pratto of champion USA.

In the 2018 Haarlemse Honkbalweek, he hit .368/.455/.474. The Orix Buffaloes selected him on the 5th round of the 2019 NPB draft, but he only played 6 games combined before the Buffaloes released him in 2021. The Yomiuri Giants picked him up, but Katsumata stayed in the minors for the entire 2022 season and he announced his retirement.
