Biographical Information[edit]

Sho Miyagawa has pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Miyagawa was taken by the Rakuten Golden Eagles in the 2012 NPB draft. He was the first taxi squad player to win a game for Rakuten and the second taxi squad player to win his first NPB start, following Yuji Nishino. He finished the 2013 season 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA in 17 games (2 starts), though he walked 21 in 40 1/3 IP. He made one appearance in Rakuten's triumphant run in the 2013 Japan Series, struggling in game four. Relieving Jim Heuser with a 4-1 lead in the 4th, he walked Tetsuya Matsumoto and Yoshiyuki Kamei and allowed a run-scoring single to Hisayoshi Chono. He hit Takayuki Terauchi in the helmet and was ejected; reliever Shinichiro Koyama allowed one inherited run to score and Rakuten went on for a 6-5 loss. Miyagawa then started in the semifinals of the 2013 Asia Series but again struggled, giving up three first-inning runs thanks to hits by Fu-Hao Liu, Wu-Hsiung Pan and Yung-Chi Chen as well as an error by his first baseman; he lost to the Uni-President Lions, the first time a NPB team had not made it to an Asia Series final.
