Biographical Information[edit]

Shawn Teufel has pitched as high as AAA. His father is former major leaguer Tim Teufel.

Shawn was born the year his father's 1986 Mets won the World Series. Teufel hit .424 as a high school junior and .410 as a high school senior. Going to college, he batted only .152 as a freshman in 2006 and .203 as a sophomore. He was redshirted in 2008. He became a pitcher that summer with the Alaska Goldpanners, going 0-1 with a 3.09 ERA. As a junior, he had a 9-2, 4.33 record with 72 strikeouts in 72 innings and was named All-Big South Conference. He was better as a senior (10-4, 2.44) and was again All-Conference. He was among the Big South leaders in innings (100 1/3, 1st), ERA (2nd), strikeouts (2nd) and opponent average (.232, 3rd).

The Detroit Tigers chose him in the 25th round of the 2010 amateur draft. The scout was Bill Buck. He split the summer between the Connecticut Tigers (1 R in 3 IP, 6 K), West Michigan Whitecaps (1-1, 2.60) and Lakeland Flying Tigers (2.45, 19 K in 14 2/3 IP). In 2011, he was with Lakeland (4-5, 3.78) and the Toledo Mud Hens (1-0, 0 R, 3 H, 7 K in 6 IP).
