Shawn Schlecter

Biographical Information[edit]

Shawn Schlecter played college ball at North Iowa Area Community College from 2011-2012. He joined the NIACC coaching staff in 2013 as a student assistant coach for one year before moving into a paid assistant coach position. Schlecter stayed with the Trojans through 2019. Two other Trojan coaches, head coach Travis Hergert and assistant coach Brett DeGagne also joined the affiliated baseball coaching ranks in 2020.

Schlecter was scheduled to be the hitting coach for the GCL Twins in 2020 before COVID-19 caused the cancellation of the minor league season. After that he rose steadily through the Minnesota Twins player development system. He was a hitting coach for the FCL Twins in 2021, Cedar Rapids Kernels in 2022, and Wichita Wind Surge in 2023. In the latter year he helped the Wind Surge offense finish third in the Texas League in average (.259), total bases (1955), slugging (.425), and OPS (.772). Schlechter moved to the top minor league rung in 2024 with the St. Paul Saints.
