Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Shawn Purdy played in the minor leagues from 1991 to 1998, reaching AAA in 1997-1998.

Purdy was drafted by the California Angels in the 16th round of the 1991 amateur draft and pitched in their system through 1994 reaching AA with the Midland Angels before being released. He hooked on with the San Francisco Giants spending 1995-1996 with the Shreveport Captains and 1997 with the Phoenix Giants. He then signed on with the Atlanta Braves spending his final season with the Richmond Braves in 1998.

Purdy's son Brock Purdy was the last player selected in the 2022 NFL draft, but ended up as the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers at the end of the season, leading the team into the playoffs that year, and to Super Bowl LVIII in 2024, where he started against another son of a baseball player, Patrick Mahomes; the 49ers lost the game in overtime.
