Biographical Information[edit]

Shane Watson was a 2012 first-round pick.

Watson was 4-3 with a 1.19 ERA as a high school senior, with 79 strikeouts in 53 innings. He had a University of Southern California scholarship offer when the Philadelphia Phillies took him with the 40th pick of the 2012 amateur draft. The pick, Philadelphia's first, was compensation for the loss of Ryan Madson to free agency. Philadelphia had lost the 31st pick when they signed free agent Jonathan Papelbon. Watson signed quickly and was sent to the GCL Phillies.
