Biographical Information[edit]

Shane Dawson has pitched in the minors and for Team Canada.

Dawson was taken by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 12th round of the 2012 amateur draft; Jamie Lehman was the scout. He was 2-1 with a 2.35 ERA that summer for the GCL Blue Jays, striking out 35 and walking 10 in 30 2/3 IP. He split 2013 between the Bluefield Blue Jays (1-3, 2 Sv, 3.29, 35 K, 6 BB, 17 H in 27 1/3 IP) and the Vancouver Canadians (1-1, 2.89, 26 K, 4 BB in 18 2/3 IP), continuing to show impressive K/IP and K/BB (6.1:1) ratios.

With the 2014 Lansing Lugnuts, the lefty was 3-5 with a 3.38 ERA, his strikeout rate finally falling under one per inning while his walk rate rose. He opened 2015 on a strong note for Lansing and made Canada's squad for the 2015 Pan American Games. With Canada having a rotation primarily of former major leaguers (Jeff Francis, Shawn Hill, Phillippe Aumont plus AA hurler Jared Mortensen), Dawson was used in relief and was very sharp. He pitched one shutout inning (1 BB, 2 K) in a Canadian romp of Nicaragua in his Team Canada debut. In his second outing, Canada's lone loss, he relieved Mortensen with a 4-1 deficit and two outs in the 4th against Team USA. He blanked the US (the eventual Silver Medalists, with several former major leaguers and some solid prospects in the lineup as well) for the next 5 1/3 IP, allowing only two hits and no walks, striking out three. Canada still lost 4-1. They would go on to take the Gold Medal, becoming the second nation (after Cuba) to win multiple baseball Golds in the Pan American Games. Dawson did not pitch enough innings to qualify for the ERA lead - he was 2/3 IP shy of tying Aumont, Berman Espinoza and Jake Thompson for the lead.
