His ERA rose to 7.04 in 11 games in 2008 (the team was now the Woori Heroes), then he recorded a 5.94 ERA in 18 games in 2009, when the team became the Seoul Heroes. Kim tore his ACL and missed the entire 2010 season, and he got a exemption from military service due to that injury. His ERA was 5.96 in 8 games in 2011 (by this time the team was the Nexen Heroes), and he missed half of the season because he underwent another knee injury. Kim was 5-9 with a 4.69 ERA in 2012, then he went 5-5 with a 5.15 ERA in 2013. He was moved to the bullpen in 2014, and his ERA was 8.00 in 34 games.
The Seoul native was 4-5 with a 4.38 ERA in 2015, and he was named Nexen's closer in 2016. Kim collected 36 saves with a 2.60 ERA in 62 appearances, and he led the league in saves. He was traded to the KIA Tigers with Jae-sin Yoo for Seung-ho Lee and Dong-wook Son, and he ended up collecting 18 saves and 7 holds with a 5.40 ERA in 48 games in 2017. He pitched a shutout inning in 2017 Korean Series Game 1, and he notched a save in each of Game 3 and Game 4. He recorded 2/3 of a shutout inning in Game 5, and he got his only title as the Tigers beat the Bears. Kim struggled in 2018, and his ERA was 6.75 in 40 games. He mainly stayed in the minors in 2019, and the SK Wyverns picked him in the second draft. Kim recorded a 5.79 ERA in 42 games in 2020, and he announced his retirement after the 2021 season.
Overall, Kim was 30-41 with a 5.18 ERA, collected 22 holds and 59 saves in 414 appearances, struck out 514 and pitched 691 1/3 innings in 14 seasons in the KBO.
