Biographical Information[edit]

Relief pitcher Scott Duff played in the Cincinnati Reds system from 1990 to 1993.

He began his career in 1990 by going 3-2 with 37 strikeouts and a 3.18 ERA in 16 appearances (34 innings for the Billings Mustangs (16 G) and Charleston Wheelers (3 G). In 1991, he was 803 with 15 saves, 30 games finished, 53 strikeouts and a 2.72 ERA in 40 games (49 2/3 innings) for the Wheelers. He was 8th in the South Atlantic League in saves and was 5th in the Reds' chain behind Steve Foster, Sean Doty, Trevor Hoffman and Keith Brown.

With the Cedar Rapids Reds in 1992, Duff was 4-1 with a 4.09 ERA in 43 appearances and in 1993, he was 2-0 with a 10.57 ERA in seven appearances for the Winston-Salem Spirits. Overall, he was 17-6 with 17 saves, 141 strikeouts, 96 walks and a 3.72 ERA in 106 games (135 1/3 innings pitched).

After multiple failed suicide attempts, a robbery conviction and battles with drugs, Duff was killed by police in what was considered a "suicide by cop" at the age of 33 in December 1999.
