Biographical Information[edit]

Left-hander Scott Cary pitched four seasons in pro baseball, including one year with the Washington Senators.

Beginning his career in 1942, the 19-year-old Cary had a 2-9 record with a pair of clubs in two Class D leagues. He was out of baseball the following three years, likely serving in the military during World War II. He returned in 1946 with the Orlando Senators of the Florida State League, posting a 22-7 record and a 2.08 ERA in 36 appearances. His 22 victories tied for most and his 224 strikeouts led the circuit. His work also helped his team to a league championship and playoff title and put him on the All-Star team.

Cary reached the big leagues the next summer with the Senators. He made his debut on May 1, 1947, pitching out of the bullpen and throwing a scoreless eighth inning against the St. Louis Browns. He appeared in 23 games on his way to a 3-1 record and 5.93 ERA while pitching 54 2/3 innings. He made his final appearance on September 17th, throwing a scoreless ninth versus the Cleveland Indians. He played one more season in the minors in 1948, going 14-10 in 42 outings for the Charlotte Hornets of the Tri-State League. Overall, Cary had a three-year minor league record of 38-26 while appearing in 96 games and pitching 541 innings.

After baseball, Cary farmed and drove a truck for a living. He died in 2011 at age 87.
