Biographical Information

Santo Luis is a minor league relief pitcher currently (April 21, 2010) on the Boston Red Sox inactive roster.

Luis began his professional career in 2006, playing for the Greenville Drive in the Houston Astros farm system. He went 2-2 with 10 saves and a 1.82 ERA in 25 games with them, striking out 40 batters in 34 2/3 innings. In 2007, with the Lexington Legends, he went 2-3 with nine saves and a 4.66 ERA in 44 games, striking out 99 batters in 75 1/3 innings.

Luis wound up in the Chicago White Sox organization in 2008, pitching for the Kannapolis Intimidators (31 games) and Winston-Salem Warthogs (one game), going a combined 6-3 with a 3.82 ERA in 42 games. He struck out 135 batters in 92 innings of work. In 2009, he pitched for the Warthogs, going 5-4 with 14 saves and a 4.34 ERA in 47 games, striking out 79 batters in 56 innings.

He began the 2010 season with the Birmingham Barons, but on April 13 he was claimed off waivers by the Red Sox and assigned to the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs.
