In 1961 the Miami Marlins moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico. This helped keep an International League presence in the Caribbean as the Havana Sugar Kings had just left the league. The team struggled financially in San Juan and the club moved to Charleston, WV in the middle of the year, where they became the Charleston Marlins.
