Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Sam Hinds played one season in the majors for the Milwaukee Brewers.

Hinds was born in Maryland, spent his childhood in Florida, and attended high school in California before finishing high school in The Netherlands. He was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 35th round of the 1971 amateur draft but opted to attend Broward Community College instead. He later signed with the Brewers and began his pro career in 1974 with the Danville Warriors, going 9-8 with a 3.40 ERA in 25 games. He spent the next summer, 1975, with the Thetford Mines Miners and went 6-13 with a 3.50 ERA in 25 starts, and he posted a 12-10 record for the Berkshire Brewers in 1976.

Hinds reached the majors with Milwaukee in 1977, making his big league debut against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on May 21st, giving up 2 earned runs over 5 1/3 innings of relief work. He notched his first save against the Baltimore Orioles on June 15th, and he made his first (and only) major league start against the Red Sox on July 28th, allowing 6 earned runs in 2 2/3 innings to take the loss. He ended the year with an 0-3 record and a 4.73 ERA in 29 games for Milwaukee.

Hinds spent 1978 with the AAA Spokane Indians, going 1-8 with a 6.73 ERA. He took a step down the next year, 1979, and was 8-8 in 20 outings for the AA Holyoke Millers in what would be his final season of pro ball.
