Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Salvador Valdez began his professional career in 2004. He spent a season in the Arizona Diamondbacks system before embarking on a career in the Mexican League and Mexican Pacific Winter League.
He didn't play in 2005. Though he'd been in the Mexican League since 2006, he didn't reach double digits in victories until 2014, when he went 13-7 with a 4.12 ERA in 23 starts for the Vaqueros Laguna. He tied Fabio Castro for the league win lead. He also went 5-1 with a 2.69 ERA for the Tomateros de Culiacan in the MPWL to bring his totals to 18-8 with a 3.65 ERA in 35 games. He was a Mexican League Mid-Season All-Star that year. In the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games, he allowed 3 runs in 6 innings in a no-decision against Puerto Rico. He left with a 4-3 lead but the bullpen blew it, Oscar Felix taking the loss. He fanned 7, putting him second on Mexico's staff for the event, behind Sergio Mora's 11.
