Saginaw Valley State University was founded as Saginaw Valley College. The school became Saginaw Valley State College in 1974 and adopted its current name in 1987.
Longtime coach Walt Head was placed on paid leave in April 2014 for issues "related to the health and welfare of its players." [1]
