Biographical Information[edit]
Ryota Ishioka has played in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team.
Ishioka played for JR East in the industrial leagues after high school. He won Gold with Japan in the 2013 East Asian Games. [1] He was a bench player for Japan in the 2014 Asian Games, backing up Akira Matsumoto in LF and Shun Ishikawa at 1B. He went 3 for 4 with a triple, steal, two walks, two runs and a RBI as a fine contributor for the Bronze Medal winners. He had 3 putouts in the field. [2] The Chunichi Dragons took him in the 6th round of the 2015 NPB draft. [3]
He had back surgery in 2016, limiting him to 26 games in the minor Western League, where he hit .289/.329/.355. [4] He then was in the Asian Winter League. [5] He spent most of 2017 on the farm (.222/.285/.275) and got into a little action with the big club, going 0 for 4; he was retired by Shoichi Ino in his first at-bat. Dayán Viciedo was the main first baseman for Chunichi that year.
Ishioka produced at a .266/.292/.352 clip as a regular in the minors in 2018 then was 2 for 9 with a walk and a RBI in 2019, again having back surgery. [6] He returned to the minors in 2020.
