Ryan Sanders has pitched for the New Zealand national team.
He had a 21-2, 2.42 record during his high school career, striking out 207 in 144 IP. [1] He pitched 1 2/3 shutout innings as a college freshman and was 2-3 with a 7.34 ERA as a sophomore, though he did whiff 41 in 30 2/3 innings. He improved to 3-2, 3.32 with a save his junior season.
Sanders then joined New Zealand's squad for the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. He was one of five players on the team born in the US, alongside staffmates Zaid Flynn and Charlie Adamson and outfielders Max Brown and Kris Richards. He started against Argentina and allowed four hits and one walk in 4 2/3 shutout innings, striking out five, before turning it over to Elliot Johnstone. It was still 0-0 as Federico Robles was also dazzling. [2]
