Biographical Information[edit]

First baseman Ryan Roberson attended George Washington University and as a sophomore hit .383 and led the Atlantic-10 Conference with 68 RBIs. As a senior, he hit 16 home runs and led the conference with a .423 batting average.

Roberson was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 30th round of the 2005 amateur draft and made his pro debut with the Oneonta Tigers on June 21st, hitting a homer and driving in 5 runs against the Tri-City Valley Cats. Overall, he hit .284 with 7 home runs and 47 RBI in 52 games in his first pro season. He began the next summer with the West Michigan Whitecaps, hitting .233 in 34 games before being sidelined by a wrist injury in May. He returned in August and played in a handful of games with the GCL Tigers and the Lakeland Tigers. He returned to Lakeland in 2007 and spent most of the year there, hitting .268 in 100 games despite missing more than a month with a broken thumb.

Roberson spent the majority of 2008 with the AA Erie Sea Wolves and earned a spot on the Eastern League All-Star team. He hit 25 home runs that year and put together a 19-game hitting streak during the season. He also was briefly promoted to the Toledo Mud Hens in June and hit .240 in 7 games at the AAA level that summer.
