Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Ryan Owens was selected by the Florida Marlins in the 13th round of the 1996 amateur draft but opted for college instead. He was 2 for 10 with a triple, two walks and two runs for Team USA in the 1998 Baseball World Cup, handling nine chances error-free at third base; he split the position with Brant Ust. He was then taken by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 7th round of the 1999 amateur draft. He played nine years in the minors, briefly reaching the AAA level.
Owens died in 2018 of a sudden heart attack at age 39.
