Biographical Information[edit]
1B/OF Ryan Noda was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 2022 Rule V Draft, and made the club out of Spring Training in 2023. He made his major league debut on his 27th birthday as a pinch-runner for Jesús Aguilar in the bottom of the 8th inning on Opening Day, March 30th, against the Los Angeles Angels.
Noda was originally drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 15th round of the 2017 amateur draft, out of the University of Cincinnati. He had a great first professional season with the Bluefield Blue Jays as he was named the Appalachian League Player of the Year when he hit .365/.507/.575 in 66 games. However, his production went down gradually over his next two seasons, with the Lansing Lugnuts of the Midwest League in 2018 and the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Florida State League in 2019, although he did hit 20 homers for Lansing. After sitting out the 2020 season because the minor leagues were shut down by the COVID-19 pandemic, he was sent to the Los Angeles Dodgers on February 23, 2021, and played two seasons in their system. In 2021, he hit .250/.383/.521 in 113 games for the AA Tulsa Drillers, belting 29 homers in 113 games, and in 2022, he hit .259/.396/.474 in 135 games for the Oklahoma City Dodgers of the Pacific Coast League, with 25 homers and 90 RBIs. He was named an organizational All-Star after the season, as had been the case with the Blue Jays following his great 2017 debut, but he was not added to the Dodgers' 40-man roster after the season, exposing him to the Rule V Draft when he was picked by Oakland.
