Biographical Information[edit]
Ross McCoy has been a minor league outfielder.
High School[edit]
McCoy won a letter three years while attending Menomonee Falls High School. He lettered twice in football (defensive tight end) and once in track (sprinter). He earned all-conference second-team honors in football, and was a first team all-conference and all-district honoree.
Collegiate[edit]
McCoy played for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers in the Horizon League from 2004 to 2007 after being redshirted in 2003.
In 2004, as a freshman, Ross hit .324 with 20 extra-base hits (11 doubles, 3 triples, 6 home runs) and drove in 36 runs. He hit .636 in the Horizon League Tournament, and finished the season on a 15-game hitting streak with 7 doubles, 2 triples, and 2 homers and drove in 14 runs during the streak. He was on the Second-Team All-Horizon League and the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team.
During the 2005 season, McCoy hit .256 with 18 extra base hits including 4 triples.
In his junior season in 2006, Ross batted .316 with 18 doubles and 11 home runs with 48 RBIs. In a game on April 12 against Chicago State, he had 6 hits, drove in 8 runs, and scored 4 himself. This included a double and two homers, one of them a grand slam. He was a member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll.
As a senior in 2007, McCoy was the only Panther to start in all 57 games. He hit .292, scored 35 runs, and drove in 33. He was 7-for-18 at the Horizon League Tournament, and score six runs. He was named to both the Horizon Academic All-League Team and the Horizon Academic Honor Roll.
Minors[edit]
Ross started out in the minor leagues playing 29 games for the Lincoln Saltdogs of the American Association. He hit .302, drove in 12 runs, and hit 1 homer in 29 games.
He split 2008 between three teams. He first played for the Blythe Heat in the Arizona Winter League, hitting.353 with 18 RBIs and 4 homers. Back with the Lincoln Saltdogs, he hit just .217, only 5 RBIs and 1 home run. He joined the Reno Silver Sox in the Golden Baseball League and improved to bat .260 with 38 RBIs and 10 dingers.
In 2009, McCoy came to the Frontier League to play with the Rockford RiverHawks. He hit .283 with 44 RBIs and 5 home runs.
As Ross started the 2010 season, he played for the Evansville Otters in the Frontier League until he was cut on June 10, 2010. He was hitting only .163 in 14 games and only had 4 RBIs at the time.
Normal CornBelters (Frontier League)[edit]
Then the Normal CornBelters signed McCoy on June 16, 2010.
That very same night Ross was in the starting lineup for the CornBelters facing the Florence Freedom. He immediately made an impact going 1-for-4 with a solo home run as the CornBelters defeated the Freedom 5-3.
On the night of July 10, the Cornbelters had just fallen behind 3-1 in the 10th inning against the Traverse City Beach Bums. After loading the bases, McCoy came to the plate and smacked the first pitch over the wall for a walk-off grand slam win to give the CornBelters a 6-3 victory.
Ross finished the 2010 season hitting .317 for the CornBelters. He drove in 48 runs and belted 14 homeruns.
