Rose Bowl

From BR Bullpen

The Rose Bowl is primarily a college football stadium located in Pasadena, CA. It is best known for hosting the annual Rose Bowl Game, preceded by the Tournament of Roses Parade, every New Year's Day. It originally opened in 1922, and has a seating capacity around 98,000 (it used to be over 100,000), making it one of the largest stadiums anywhere in the world. It is on the National Register of Historic Places.

It serves as the home stadium for the University of California, Los Angeles's football team (but not its baseball team) and has hosted the Super Bowl on five occasions, as well as the final game of the 1994 FIFA Soccer World Cup and the 1999 Women's Soccer World Cup. Numerous concerts have also taken place here.

One sport that has not featured at the Rose Bowl is baseball, although it was seriously considered as a possible home for the Los Angeles Dodgers when the team was preparing its relocation from Brooklyn after the 1957 season. Negotiations were opened with the city of Pasadena, the venue's owner, but no arrangement could be reached. Instead, the Dodgers settled on using the Los Angeles Coliseum as their first ballpark, a venue ill-suited for baseball in spite of its huge seating capacity. To be fair, the Rose Bowl, built on the same mold, would have been just as problematic as a home ballpark.
