Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Roque Mercedes had a long career in the minor leagues, lasting from 2005 to 2012, reaching AA a few times. He spent most of his career with the Milwaukee Brewers organization, although he also pitched a season and a half with the Arizona Diamondbacks and finished up with one season in the independent Can-Am Association with Les Capitales de Québec.

His best season in terms of win/loss record was 2007, when he went 7-8, 4.88 in 27 games mainly as a starter between the Helena Brewers and the West Virginia Power. As a reliever, he saved 16 games in 2011 between the Brevard County Manatees and Huntsville Stars. His stints in AA included 15 games with the Mobile BayBears in 2009, a full season with the same team in 2010 (he went 3-4, 4.36 in 38 games), a 27-game sting with Huntsville in the aforementioned 2011 season, and 9 games with Hunstville in 2012 before being released by the Brewers on May 17th and heading over to Quebec City. He was considered a major league prospect in his day, with a fastball in the mid-90s and good control (his K/W ratio at West Virginia in 2008 was 111/27 in 113 innings), but his career stalled along the way.

On July 19, 2009, he was traded from the Brewers to the Diamondbacks along with Cole Gillespie in return for major league infielder Felipe López. He re-joined the Brewers after the 2010 season, being claimed off waivers on December 21st.
