Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Rookie Davis was a 14th round selection by the New York Yankees in the 2011 amateur draft out of a high school in North Carolina. He began his professional career that same year with the GCL Yankees. Used almost exclusively as a starting pitcher during his four season in the Yankees organization, from 2009 to 2015, he compiled a record of 19-20, 3.90 in 72 games. He went 7-8, 4.93 for the Charleston RiverDogs of the South Atlantic League in 2014, and 8-7, 3.86 in 2015 between the Tampa Yankees of the Florida State League and Trenton Thunder of the Eastern League.

On December 28, 2015, he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds alongside fellow prospects Caleb Cotham, Eric Jagielo and Tony Renda in return for P Aroldis Chapman. He split the 2016 season between AA Pensacola Blue Wahoos and AAA Louisville Bats and was 10-5, 3.82, logging 125 innings. Taking part in spring training with the Reds in 2017, he threw an errant fastball that broke the left hand of Colorado Rockies 1B Ian Desmond on March 12th. He made the Reds' opening day roster and had his debut on April 6th in a start against the Philadelphia Phillies during which he gave up 4 runs in 3 innings but was not involved in the decision. He went 1-3, 8.63 in 7 games, 6 of them starts, allowing 38 hits and 14 walks in 24 innings. He also pitched 14 times between Pensacola and Louisville again, going a combined 4-4, 4.74, in addition to a couple of rehabilitation appearances with the AZL Reds. After the season, he had to undergo a pair of surgeries on his labrum and in his right hip, the latter to remove a bone spur. He was placed on the 60-day disabled list at the start of spring training in 2018 and was expected to miss most or all of the season as he recovered.
