Rong-Tsong Tsai has been an interim manager for at least five different teams in Taiwan. He has been a hitting coach on many other occasions.
Tsai was a high school coach when he coached for Taiwan in the 1987 World Junior Championship, 1988 World Junior Championship, 1989 World Junior Championship and 1991 World Junior Championship. Tsai first became an interim manager with the Jungo Bears, going 22-31-2 in stints in 1993 and 1994; he was a coach for the team from 1993-1996. In 1997, he moved to the Taipei Gida, going 1-1 as interim manager in '97 and '98. He also was interim manager of the Taichung Agan for the end of 1998, going 29-29. He got his first full-time managerial job with the Agan in 1999, going 40-42-2 but excelling in the postseason to win the Taiwan Major League title. The club fell to 35-46-3 in 2000, Tsai's second full year at the reigns.
Tsai was coach for the First Financial Holdings Agan in 2003 and was interim manager once more, with a 13-47-8 record in that role. He coached for the La New Bears from 2004-2007, never being given the head job in a change of pace. In September 5, 2008, Tsai was named as manager of the dMedia T-Rex, guiding the club to a 4-12 finish before they folded at year's end. He coached in the minors for the La New Bears in 2009 then was their manager in 2010, as the club had a 53-59-3 campaign. Tsai was fired at year's end. Through 2010, his career record was 197-367-18.
