Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Ron Davenport played in the minor and independent leagues from 2000 to 2009. He was taken by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 22nd round of the 2000 amateur draft, a few picks after outfielder Jason Ellison and in the same round as outfielder Jason Bay, and began his professional career that year. He was signed by scout Charles Aliano.

He hit .345/.404/.485 with 4 home runs and 46 RBI in 59 games for the short-season Medicine Hat Blue Jays his first year, though by 2002 he was hitting .227. 2004 was a rebound season as he hit .278/.345/.496 with 16 home runs, 92 RBI and 40 doubles in 113 games for the Dunedin Blue Jays; he earned Florida State League All-Star honors alongside fellow outfielders Matt Murton and Felix Pie. He then had 10 home runs and 14 home runs in 2005 and 2006, respectively. He played in the Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates systems in 2007, then moved to the independent Atlantic League, where he spent 2008 and 2009. With the Camden Riversharks in 2008, he hit .332/.349/.555 with 18 home runs, 93 RBI and just 10 walks in 102 games. He fell to .197 in 2009 to wrap up his career.

Overall, Davenport batted .280/.327/.436 with 77 home runs, 510 RBI and 902 hits in 870 games over 10 seasons. He drew just 220 walks, or one every 16 plate appearances.
