Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Roger Etheridge pitched in the minor leagues from 1992 to 1997, the final season coming in the independent Northern League. He was undrafted coming out of junior college and signed with the Cincinnati Reds, beginning his career in the Appalachian League with the Princeton Reds.

He had his best season in 1994 when he went 11-5, 3.01 in 26 games (23 starts) spread among three different teams. During that season, he was traded from the Reds to the Atlanta Braves on May 29th as part of the deal that sent Deion Sanders to Cincinnati. He joined OF Roberto Kelly in heading to the Braves, although in his case it just meant switching teams in the South Atlantic League, from the Charleston Wheelers to the Macon Braves; he was promoted to the Durham Bulls of the Carolina League later that season. His 155 1/3 innings and 97 strikeouts that season were both personal bests. He was with the AA Greenville Braves of the Southern League in both 1995 and 1996, but went just 2-10, 5.67 the first season, and 4.-2, 6.89 as a reliever the second, earning his release. His final season as a pro was with the Madison Black Wolf, where he was 6-8, 5.53 in 1997.
