Biographical Information

When Roger Cedeño was called up by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1995, he replaced teammate Ismael Valdéz as the NL's youngest player. The Dodgers anticipated he would replace Brett Butler in their outfield, but he did not break on through until being dealt to the New York Mets in 1999. In Queens, Roger hit .313/.396/.408, scoring 90 runs and stealing 66 bases in 155 games. He was part of the package to bring Mike Hampton to Shea from the Houston Astros and, though his numbers were not quite as good the next two years, the Mets lured him back as a free agent for 2002. His numbers promptly bottomed out, with his only "highlight" in his second Met run a brawl with Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar in full view of the press after making one too many jokey comments about an old baseball card of Robbie's. Finishing his career with two seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2004 and 2005, Roger amassed a solid 213 steals in 1,100 games.

Roger is the uncle of Yangervis Solarte.
