Rogelio Echeverría

Rogelio Echeverría was the first reliever in the history of the Guatemalan national team. In their first event, the 1930 Central American Games, he relieved Ramiro Martínez during a 15-1 opening loss to Gold Medal winner Cuba. He later lost to Silver Medal winner Mexico and Bronze Medal winner Panama and also saw action in right (1 A, 0 PO, 0 E). He hit .167 with one run. On the mound, he was 0-2 with a 6.33 ERA. In 29 1/3 IP, he allowed 33 hits and 17 walks while striking out 18. He tied Joseph Lyons for the most losses in the Games, led in IP easily (14 ahead of Fernando Barradas), led in hits allowed (33, 13 more than Agustín Flórez), led in strikeouts (two ahead of Barradas) and led in walks (9 ahead of Barradas). Despite giving up the most runs in the event, he led Guatemala's two-man staff in ERA, 4.13 ahead of Martínez. He also played soccer for Guatemala in the Games. He was still with Guatemala for the 1948 Amateur World Series.
