Rodolfo Alberto Veitia Rodriguez
- Bats Right, Throws Right
- Born October 30, 1976 in La Guaira, Vargas Venezuela (1976 birthdate as per 2001 European Championship website, 1978 as per Pura Pelota Venezuelan League stats)
Biographical Information[edit]
Rodolfo Veitia played in the minors, Venezuela and Spain.
Veitia was 1 for 6 with a triple, run and a RBI for his hometown Tiburones de La Guaira in the 1996-1997 Venezuelan Winter League, his only action in that loop. He played for the DSL Expos in 1997 and possibly other years. The third baseman then moved to Spain and played for San Inazio Bilbao.
He played for the Spanish national team in the 2001 European Championship, hitting .281/.314/.562 with six doubles; seven of his nine hits went for extra bases. He drove in 6 runs in 8 games. He presumably was a DH mostly as he only had two chances in the field (1 PO, 1 A). He led the team in doubles, had their lone homer, led in slugging by .062 over Javier Zabalza and was second to Zabalza in RBI. For the tourney (leaders did not count medal round/placement games), he was 4th in slugging (after David Sheldon, Jiří Víšek and René Herlitzius), led in doubles (one ahead of David Meurant and Pavel Budský) and tied Sheldon for first in total bases (18). He did not make the All-Star team; Marcel Joost was picked at DH.
After his playing career ended, he worked for the Real Federación Española de Béisbol y Softbol.
