Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Rocky Gale has had a long minor league career and played several years in the majors.
Gale was born in Portland, OR and attended North Salem High School. The only other major leaguer (through 2019) to attend that high school has been Jed Lowrie, who did so a few years earlier. Rocky attended the University of Portland, a few years after Austin Bibens-Dirkx was there. Gale was drafted in the 24th round of the 2010 Amateur Draft.
He was in the San Diego Padres organization from 2010 to part of 2017. He played as high as AAA ball during most of his years in the organization. After hitting over .300 for two years with the El Paso Chihuahuas, he came to the majors for 11 games with the Padres. He spent parts of 2016 and 2017 with El Paso, and came to the bigs again in 2017 for 3 games.
The Los Angeles Dodgers signed him as a free agent in 2018, put him with the Oklahoma City Dodgers for most of 2018, and brought him up for 3 games. He again got into 5 major league games in 2019, played for Oklahoma City and the Tulsa Drillers for part of the year, and was sold to the Tampa Bay Rays organization, appearing with the Durham Bulls for 17 games and hitting .323.
The Dodgers signed him again for 2020.
