Rochester Flour Cities

Rochester, NY has been a member of the International League and its predecessors for well over 100 years, beginning in 1885 with the Rochester Flour Cities of the New York State League. They went 40-36 under manager James Jackson and finished second behind the Syracuse Stars. The league's most productive offense (526 runs in 75 games) was led by 1B Doc Kennedy (.387, the league batting champ) though future Rochester star Joe Visner hit .361 in part-time action, scoring 32 runs in 27 contests. John Schappert (1.36 ERA) and Steve Toole (0.88 ERA) led the staff. When the loop became the IL in 1886, the team was re-named the Rochester Maroons.
