Biographical Information[edit]
Robert Taylor was drafted in the 25th round of the 2008 MLB Draft (748th overall) by the Florida Marlins. He signed on June 10th.
He had previously been drafted by Los Angeles Dodgers in 36th Round (1073rd overall) of 2006 draft, but opted not to sign.
Taylor attended Tom Moore High School in Ingram, TX. He later attended Laredo Community College in 2005-2006 and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2007-2008.
With UALR, he hit a combined .331 with 17 career homeruns, which ranks in the top 5 at the school.
Taylor also played summer baseball while in college with the Anchorage Bucs of the Alaska Baseball League (2006) and the Harrisonburg Turks of the Valley Baseball League (2007).
He spent his first season of professional baseball with the Jamestown Jammers of the New York-Penn Leaguein 2008. With them, he hit .224 with 5 homeruns in 38 games. He played DH, outfield, first base and catcher, his natural position.
Taylor split the 2009 with season with Jamestown and the Greensboro Grasshoppers of the South Atlantic League. On July 11th, while playing with the Jammers, Taylor hit a grand slam against the State College Spikes, the first ever from a visiting player at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Less than a week later on June 16th, Taylor hit a game winning, walk-off homerun in the bottom of the 9th inning for Jamestown. Combined with the two teams, he hit a .242 with 5 homeruns and 23 RBIs in 51 games.
