Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Robert Gasser was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 2nd round of the 2021 amateur draft from the University of Houston. His college career had not been straightforward as he had first enrolled at the University of New Mexico, then after spending the 2018 season there, moved to San Joaquin Delta College for a year, going 14-0, before transferring to Houston, only to see his first season there cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. In his final college season in 2021, he went 6-6, 2.63 in 14 starts.

On August 1, 2022, he was included in a major deal at the trading deadline, heading to the Milwaukee Brewers along with Dinelson Lamet, Esteury Ruiz and Taylor Rogers in return for closer Josh Hader. He finished that year with the AA Biloxi Shuckers and AAA Nashville Sounds, then spent all of 2023 with Nashville, going 9-1, 3.79 in 26 games and being named the International League Pitcher of the Year. He was back at Nashville to start the 2024 season after missing a month with an injury. In three starts, he went 901, 5.25 before getting the call to Milwaukee. He made his big league debut with the Brewers on May 10th as the starting pitcher against the St. Louis Cardinals and had a great game, pitching six innings and giving up just two hits and no walks. He left with a 7-0 lead and received credit for an 11-2 win.

His father, Jim Gasser, also a pitcher, was drafted twice but never played professionally.
