Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Robert Averette was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 21st Round of the 1997 amateur draft. After two unremarkable professional seasons, he was selected to the Midwest League All-Star Game while pitching for the Rockford Reds in 1999 and led the league with a 2.58 era. Robert began the 2000 in AA with the Chattanooga Lookouts and went 12-6 with a 2.44 era and 5 complete games before earning a promotion to AAA. After two starts with the Louisville RiverBats he was traded to the Colorado Rockies for Brian Hunter (huntebr02). He returned to the Southern League for the remainder of the season and went 1-3 with a 3.19 era.

Averette struggled in two seasons in the Rockies' farm system split between the AAA Colorado Springs Sky Sox, short season Tri-City Dust Devils, and AA Carolina Mudcats. He went 7-21 with an era of 6.09, before being released. He signed with the Shreveport Sports for 2003 and seemed to regain form. He was voted to the Central Baseball League All-Star team and won 13 games with a 2.42 era. After pitching well for the Brockton Rox to begin 2004, Averette signed with the Baltimore Orioles and well with the AA Bowie BaySox. IHe was not resigned by the Orioles for the 2005 season and pitched with the Nashua Pride. He was split the 2006 season with the Somerset Patriots and the Brockton Rox. He was released by the Rox after the season.
