Biographical Information[edit]
Rina Taniyama has pitched for the Japanese women's national team.
In the 2018 Women's Baseball World Cup, she started the opener against the Dominican Republic. She walked Yanela Gomez (the leadoff batter) but then picked her off and went six shutout innings (3 H, 1 BB, 9 K) before Ayami Sato finished the whitewash. She saved Ami Sakihara's 4-1 win over Cuba, walking two but allowing no hits or walks. Japan won the Gold. She tied Ching-Wen Hu for 6th in the event in strikeouts, was 2nd in ERA (Yu-Ying Hsieh was also at 0, in more innings). [1]
