Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Ricky Burdette played in the minor leagues from 1976 to 1980. He was taken by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 3rd round of the 1976 January Draft-Regular Phase, a few picks after infielder Jody Davis. After a couple mediocre seasons in the Phillies system, he joined the New York Yankees chain, where he went 4-6, 2.07 in 74 innings in 1978 and 9-3, 2.27 in 91 innings in 1979.

On November 14, 1979, he was traded to the Texas Rangers. From Baseball-Reference.com:

"The New York Yankees traded players to be named later and cash to the Texas Rangers for Eric Soderholm. The New York Yankees sent Amos Lewis (minors) (December 13, 1979) and Ricky Burdette (minors) (December 13, 1979) to the Texas Rangers to complete the trade."

He spent a year in the Rangers system, posting a 5.23 ERA in 19 relief appearances.

Overall, he went 24-26 with a 3.64 ERA in 117 games (45 starts). He is the brother of Freddie Burdette and a distant cousin of Lew Burdette.
